I did not initiate a conversation with Don. I was preoccupied with a building I was attempting to photograph. Don walked by and asked me if I'd like to take a picture of a homeless man. Don was all smiles when he said it. A huge smile. I said I love to, but he was going to have to give me a serious look so it would look all artsy. I had Don stand against a wall. The sunlight was harsh, but it was hitting Don in an interesting way. It's hard to tell in this picture, but Don was still fighting a smile. He couldn't help himself.

I liked Don. He was nice, friendly and seemed more down on his luck than anything. I showed Don his picture and I could sense that he was getting ready to walk off so I kept the conversation going. Don is from Temple, Texas. I asked him if he was on 6th Street much. Don said no, he usually stayed near Burnet and the 183. That led me to believe that Don has a favored corner that he likes to work. He didn’t seem to care for 6th Street. I can’t say as I blame him. 6th Street is rough on the homeless and, (on 6th Street), the homeless are rough on each other.

Don never asked me for money, but before he could walk off I gave him a couple bucks.
