How do you know when a photo looks good in Black and white? - I am always asked this question and I find it difficult to answer it. My generic answer would be, "a photo that contains many tonal contrast makes a good monochrome photo."
But to tell you frankly, it is also gut feel. Shooting this scene in Bow Lake, I had one thought in mind. "This would look good in monochrome!"
Just like visual design, you develop that certain instinct when choosing a photo for black and white. Special mention to my fellow photographer in the scene.
