Sometimes the best shots are the right in your own backyard (or so). I found this little gal at a local park just 20 minutes from home.

I was hiking along the river when I spotted a pair of fawns and mom getting ready to cross the path. They really weren't in much of a hurry and I approached as if I wasn't paying any attention to them (it's funny - animals that are used to people are just fine if you're ignoring them - but as soon as you turn your attention to them - BAM - they're gone).

As I advanced, I noticed they were cutting through a patch of wildflowers. Now, that's a shot that's been on my wish list for a fairly long time, so I excitedly set the camera down and trained the lens their direction. The second I did this, they stopped and looked at me, trying to decide if they were going to run or not.

I froze, hoping they would take the extra step or two I needed for the shot. The first fawn moved off the opposite direction (figures) but the second little girl was fixated with me. She moved a little but still wasn't in position. From behind me I saw another hiker had stopped to watch the action.

I knew without a doubt that if that hiker walked by the opportunity would be over. Then another pair of hikers showed up - and stopped too! All I could think was "Come on little girl - HURRY!"

And either by sheer force of will or - more likely - dumb luck, the little fawn in the photo above moved into position and I snapped away like crazy!

After the shot, I turned around and thanked everyone for waiting (as I grinned from ear to ear I'm sure :) )
