This past weekend I had the great opportunity to see and photography a Ruby-Throated Hummingbird nest at eye level. The nest was located on a Sycamore Tree branch adjacent to a footbridge going over Big Walnut Creek which is located in Gahanna (just outside of Columbus Ohio). The background is BOKEH on the grass running along the creek from the footbridge. The nest itself was only a mere 30feet or so from the bridge and provided an unobstructed view of the nest which you can see housed two baby hummingbirds with mother coming by every 20 minutes or so to feed them. The nest was a little bigger then the size of a golf ball. It was truly a remarkable and unforgettable moment in nature for me. Accompanying me on the shoot were two photographer friends of mine. The last baby fledged the nest on Tuesday morning (9/4). This particular image I managed to catch momma hummingbird flickering her tongue out which I only realized when I got home. This is the first of a series I will post. Thanks for stopping by and comments are appreciated.
