Near the small italian town of Pré-Saint-Didier in the Aosta Valley region, the rapid waters of the Verney torrent have created a marvelous natural setting: the Ravine, a narrow gorge with steep anthracite sides. It is locally called the "Orrido", and is an awesome location to place a tripod, if you can bear the deafening sound and are prepared to be drenched. To reach the spot, one crosses a very scenic stone bridge, itself a worthy photographic subject.
