Erin - glad you signed up and went the extra mile JUST to comment! I think maybe the only difference is these guys live in a tent and have been wearing those close for like...6 years now. Nonetheless, thanks for the comment!

I signed up with this site just to tell you how much I love this photo. It has that perfect blend of being 'of it's place', and at the same time being universal. These guys would totally fit in my neighbourhood.

Matthew - thanks for the comment. Was was interesting is there there is a little vignetting but the sky was also doing some crazy things that day. Nonetheless, thanks for your comment. Will probably get around to editing the rest of the trip sometime this week. Have a lot of my plate as always...

Very nice, Brian. Their expressions are, well, *true*. It's obvious that you'd spent some time with them and they were comfortable with you. The sky vignette is a little heavy in my opinion, but vignetting is a personal judgment call. I'm looking forward to the rest of the photos from this trip!

Guillem - Thanks for the comment! Just a small shoot through umbrella off to camera left - there is also a hair-light set up behind the kids to camera right, but it appears that it didn't fire on this frame. Just proof that you can travel light and simple w/ strobes. I keep it simple w/ my modifiers (for the most part) because the subjects deserve to not have me running around, flipping this and that, and not focusing on getting the shot as fast as possible. I like to be as un-intrusive/un-disruptive as possible and spend most of the time talking/communicating with them. Here is most of what I travel w/ minus a few newer strobes & some similar additions : http://www.brianhirschy.com/mobile-lighting-for-travel-photography/

Ah yes - Stupid CS5 was exporting to not sRGB (which ruins uploads btw). This is much closer to the original. This image is very typical of the young nomads you will see all across the Tibetan Plateau. These kids were an absolute blast to hang out with!
