Okay, this is my first image under my new plan. I visited the Oxbow conservation area in Lawrenceburg, IN last week when I got the idea for this shot. In the background, between the soybeans and the sun, is a local power plant. That is what is creating the columns of vapor surrounding the sun. I used the Photographers' Ephemeris to locate the point of sunrise behind the power stacks.
I didn't anticipate the fog, which I should have, because it's a floodplain in early autumn. The band of fog did provide some character to the horizon, because there were no clouds in the sky at all.
I took the shot because I was fascinated with the existence of crops and bountiful wildlife in the shadow of such a prominent sign of industrialization.
