Their eyes met and became instantaneously locked. He looked at her and could think of nothing but how magnificent she was. On the outside he was stoic and poised, but inside his heart and mind raced; she was the one, the cause of this display that had punctuated his summer with beauty and divinity since as far back as he had known. Yet it all somehow made sense, and as he stared at her his eyes grew with warmth and affection. She looked down at him and her whole body quivered. So many times she had watched him for hours on end, touched by his reaction to her display, wanting to reach out to him further, but it was always denied, and he always bowed his head and retreated back to his world once the feathers stopped. But not this time.
