A summer storm moves across the waters of Lake Huron between 1:00 and 4:00 a.m.

I captured this image while creating a time-lapse video during late August on the Bruce Peninsula. I was actually sitting in my cottage watching a movie while I had my camera capturing a time-lapse of the milky way when I noticed lightning outside. I jumped in my car, booked it down a dirt road and ran through the woods and out to my camera on the shore. I grabbed my tripods and dolly, flipped the set-up around, and started firing.

In this particular scene, what appears to be the setting sun is a bolt of lightning - undefined due to my chosen length of exposure. The curious colors in the sky are a result of auroras showing themselves - even through the clouds.

This was a magical night...the air was still yet I could feel the bass of the thunder reverberate through my entire body.

I am so grateful to experience such beauty...and each time I shoot a night scene in the north I thank God for blessings like this.
