During my first visit to Bradgate Park earlier this week this was my first close encounter with a Fallow Deer. It was dull overcast and with intermittent showers, so the park was almost empty of visitors. I walked across a patch of meadow as I saw this beauty at a distance. Not knowing how skittish they are I stopped at quite a distance and sat down in the wet grass and bracken to see what happened. He was wary at first, we both stared at each other for some time, me keeping absolutely still without raising the camera, just watching and enjoying the interaction between us. He then decided I was harmless and began walking straight towards me, awesome :). He stopped at a perfect distance for my camera / lens / tele converter combination and began scratching at the ground, after a minute or so he seemed happy with is work and lay down. So there we were, only a few yards apart, watching each other and enjoying the inclement English weather as only we Brits can :). I will be going back to Bradgate Park often, the rutting season is almost upon us, hopefully some great photo opportunities to be had, certainly some awesome times coming up just watching and being with these creatures. I can't wait.
Full frame, hand held, outdoors and wet, some luck and a following wind :).
