These archways circumnavigate the exterior corridors of Sikandra, the tomb of Emperor Akbar in Agra. They are more than just pieces of artistic architecture, as I discovered, thanks to the many attendees at this site. The archways are acoustically designed using the concept of resonance. When you speak near one of the corners of these archways in the corridors, the sound waves are reflected throughout the structure of the archways, transmitting from one side of the corridor to the other… a medieval telephone system if you will.
