Actually, with the new DSLR's, insanely high iso's allow for alot of light in a little time (ISO 3200). So, I used a 30ish sec exposure to get the stars and keep them sharp, and then I used my headlamp to provide light for the surrounding area. And, I did it on a no moon night to provide contrast in the night sky
