Per Hasselberg created this sculpture in 1892. The model, a woman named Signe Larsson, was only 15 years old at the time yet would soon carry their daughter. I find her mesmerizingly beautiful, even spreading her legs, seemingly offering herself to us. Which of course in a way she is, since she had a relationship with her sculptor.
I can only hope my treatment of her does Hasselberg's vision justice.
