Taken in Whistler BC, Canada, Black Bear cubs spent a lot of time in trees to avoid predators in the first 3 years of their life. This little guy had a sibling who was out of view. Their mother had just abandoned them at 1.5 years of age which is quite common in the black bear species. At this age they are referred to as "Yearlings".
