Pair of cheetah siting and looking out for prey over a magical view of the Zululand hills at Thanda private game reserve

Wildlife photography is a hit and miss affair, as you don’t really know what you going to find and in what situation you going to find them. However one of the most useful skills a wildlife photographer can have is being able to pre-visualize images that could be possible in the area that they are photographing in. I had not scene this image in my minds eye, I was looking for the cheetahs to be walking through one of Thanda’s many grassy hilltops with the very beautiful Zululand hills in the back drop, if I could get that at sunrise or sunset even better. So would respond to any sightings of cheetah that where close or on top of hills, I was very fortunate here as I arrived and they were already making their way into the valley. They got to one of many humps in the road that channel water off the road and stopped to survey the surrounding bush for lunch. This is when I arrived, I was not on a game drive, just merely on my way to pick up my wife from Thanda’s tented camp. So planning and a bit of luck is responsible for this image.
