This is April Grace! Not only is she very beautiful (as you can see) but she is also an extremely talented actress who has worked in dozens and dozens of popular films and TV shows, such as Constantine (a movie I greatly enjoy!) I Am Legend, Magnolia and Lost . And to top that all off, she is just about the sweetest, loveliest person you could hope to meet :) I was very excited to have the chance to work with her! This photo was also my first time working with a makeup artist, Kat Lasky! Kat has her own long and impressive credit list including America's Next Top Model and Punk'd, among many others. She is a delightful person, and created really gorgeous makeup for me!

This photo touches on two series I'm currently working on; the first of which is a series based around working with actors as models. Since I'm usually asking my models to act and emote anyway, it's not too strange a concept for me, and it's been fun! More in this series to come. The second series...well, this photo isn't officially a part of it, so I'll save talking about that for when it really arrives. But it's going to be very cool :)

I'm not quite sure now how I got reading about shamanism, but I somehow did recently. I have a bit of an obsession with reading Interesting Articles online... more of an addition, to be truthful, but at least it's a fairly harmless addiction. The shamans believe in the soul (as do I) and they also believe that as we go through life and suffer traumas, little pieces of our soul splinter off and get stuck behind in those moments. Over time, this loss can be quite profound and manifest in all kinds of physical or emotional illness. The shamans have various methods of healing, and one of them is called Soul Retrieval. The shaman will go into a trance and enter the dream world on your behalf, locate these lost fragments of soul and bring them back, to reunite you with them.

As soon as I read that, I saw this picture in my head and knew I had to turn it into a photo! April was a pro, even when our neighbor's dogs decided to join in the shoot :D It's my experience that animals CANNOT RESIST being in photos. Unless you want them to, in which case they're ambivalent.
