This species is a newly recognized Brazilian endemic. The Scaled Woodcreeper occurs from western Bahia and southern Piauí south to northern São Paulo state. It is a reasonably numerous inhabitant of both wet and dry forests, from close to sea level to approximately 2000 m. It is mostly observed in the midstory or lower canopy, hitching its way along trunks and smaller branches, often in pairs and frequently joining mixed-species foraging flocks.
