A Snipe can easily be identified, either by its extraordinarily long bill or by its familiar camouflaged plumage with stripes through its head and down its back. When flushed, a Snipe rises noisily and vertically, zig-zagging to a height before dropping some distance away. The long bill, pointed wings and stripey plumage are usually visible and the white trailing edge to the wing should stand out.
