The yaks are being taken to higher pastures with salt and other essentials loaded in their backs. These yak herds are kept in the high mountain pasture for over months and a few shepherds take care of them. They come down occasionally to the villages below to get supplies and also deliver yak products like may be butter, chhurpi etc. During this time when I took this photo, it was a special time. Yarsa gumba collection season was about to come and so the yak were loaded with all sorts of supplies so that people could camp out in those high pastures for a month and search for that rare species, labelled "Viagra of the Himalayas" which is what gave them fame but might just be the doom of them.
