It is very many years since I was in Beijing, but this scene was rather common at that time. I doubt that it is common today.
Work process:
Since the shot is from my analogue archive I first scanned the dia positive.
Then the file is digitally processed. One version of the shot is processed in Camera Raw and one version is processed in PhotoMatix Pro. Then the two versions are put on separate layers in Photoshop CS5 and by masking the selective coloring are made.
