This is a very elusive but magnificent male North Chinese Leopard.

As the name infers, the North Chinese leopard are found in China. It’s rage extends from Sichaun in southern China, north to Beijing. Their fragmented population are found mostly in isolated mountain ranges and because of this very little is known about their population.
It is estimated there are approximately 2500 remaining in the wild, and there are certainly fewer than 100 in captivity worldwide with nearly all the captive North Chinese leopards found in zoos in Europe.
They tend to have darker, almost orange coats, than other leopard species; and they darken as they get older. Also, the rosettes, are smaller, darker and closer together more similar to a Jaguar markings.
Poaching, habitat destruction and the Chinese medicine trade remain the three greatest threats to the long term survival of these cats in the wild.
