A beautiful, medium sized black butterfly, scientific name Limenitis weidemeyerii. Photographed on a hike up Waterton Canyon in Colorado during late summer.
I'd never noticed before that the outer spots on the lower back wings are actually a light blue color, rather than white. Compliments to Canon on the superb quality of the 300mm f/2.8 L II lens to capture such detail and color fidelity, even with a 2x TC...I believe there may be no better glass on planet earth at the current time. ;)
