The more you are out in the field the more likely you are to see a beautiful sunset. The more you focus and try to improve your composition skills the better off you are when the light gets good. I still shoot in the weak and bland light just to exercise my eyes. Those pretty colorful clouds as bold as they are, become secondary background decoration most of the time. The more you focus on composition the more your subjects will shine and you'll learn that there's more to a pretty sunset then the sky itself. It's an opinion that doesn't need to fly with everyone but I do highly value other opinions on the subject.
