I've just returned from a memorable trip to the Isle of Skye in the company of Russell Pike and Jon Gibbs. As you would expect with Skye, we endured rain, heavy winds, enjoyed snow and just occasionally were treated to pure magic light. This shot was taken just after dawn from the Quiraing in the north of the island. It was our second successive morning to the Quiraing, the first morning was ok but without any sunlight. Russ and I decided to return for dawn on this day, and crikey how we thanked our lucky stars that we did. After waiting anxiously for about 30 minutes for the sun to appear, we were eventually rewarded with 5 minutes of probably the best light I have ever witnessed anywhere. It completely took our breath away and left us grinning like Cheshire cats for the remainder of the trip. 5 minutes later, stinging hail lashed against us on the mountainside but we couldn't care less. We had come to Skye hoping for some light and returned with not only pictures, but also memories that will remain with us forever.
