We sat at long tables in my first school, it was a large room, and there was a huge pot-bellied stove in the middle, on which our teacher would place our ( then free, but not now ! ) one third of a pint bottle of milk ! I so loved that milk, on a cold Winter's day. We learned to count on an Abacus...can you believe that ?!!! Yes, we had those big windows too.. The chalk blackboard ? Our teacher had long nails, which occasionally screeched down that blackboard...uuugghh !!!
