Not too long ago I did a series on special places, mentioning that a person’s hometown is a special place for most, whether it’s good or bad special. I was debating on continuing my fall series when via twitter, and due to photos I posted on 500px of my hometown, one of my earliest childhood friends contacted me. Decades have passed since the last time we saw each other. I was very surprised and took it as a sign. I’m posting fall images from my hometown of Bristol, RI. Two birds kind of thing.

What you see here is part of the park that was left as it was when I was a child and when my mother was a child here. When this belonged to Mr. Colt, this was typical of the roads that crossed his 465 acre farm when he opened the farm to town residents like me. I have more memories of cars and rides on these roads than I can tell you.

This particular stretch of road is posted because it is the road that leads to the Mill Gut image that I posted previously, with the stone buildings. At this point in the road, look left or right and it is pastures. Continue past the end of the (image’s) road and the Mill Gut will be on the right, Coggeshall farm on the left. Look around and you see over 100 years of memories. This is the road I measure all other roads by when fall comes around. It is no slouch in summer either. And really, winter and spring is an entirely different experience.… OK, it’s a road for all seasons.

I hope this inspires some of you to photograph your special places and share their story. The best photos come from looking inside, not outside. As one of 500px’s best photographers stated perfectly in one of her beautiful images, “i luoghi che si amano son sempre speciali, si guardano con gli occhi del cuore....” (“the places you love are always special, you look through the eyes of the heart ....”)
