At 10:30pm, I thought I heard thunder. I then grabbed my gear, got my ladder and climbed up onto our porch roof. Well, by this time, in all of the 5-10 minutes it took me to get my gear and get up on the roof, the storm was directly overhead and I was on the ROOF! CRAP!
So I laid down for my shots and guess what... You don't need a tripod to take lightning pictures. I took all of the photos that night without my tripod. I was laying on my back with my camera going and shutter speeds no faster than 22 seconds.
