En-route to a trip through Namibia I spent a night at the Augrabies River Gorge on the border of South African and Namibia. A week or two prior to arriving the river had come down in flood but had subsided somewhat by the time I arrived. It was however still pushing a torrent of water through the gorge and numerous locations to the view the gorge had been shut off to the public due to damages caused to platforms by the previous weeks flooding.

I decided to throw caution to the wind and chose one of the rickety platforms to take this shot. It was quite clouded over that morning but enough light and color from the rising sun found its way through some gaps in the clouds to create a subtle warm glow over the scene.

I used an extreme wide angle lens to capture as much of the nearby rock face which had some great shapes and textures while still showing the water rushing into the gorge and the general surrounding landscape. This also involved a bit of creative tripod balancing off the deck structure but in the end I think it worked out quite well.
