This photo was taken during a photo workshop that I led in the Dolomites October 2012.
The photo is an HDR created from 5 exposures 1 stop apart in order to capture the strongest sunligt right over the edge of the mountains as well as the darker areas. The HDR was created using the 32 bit Photomatix plugin for Lightroom. The resulting 32 bit TIFF file was tone mapped in Lightroom 4.2.
