Strange and ugly creatures up close the spotted hyena is also known as the laughing hyena.
Whilst more commonly know as a scavanger - clashing with lions and trying to steal their kills - they do also hunt and kill animals themselves in packs.
On the night game drive I did we passed a pack of these and after stopping the jeep one decided to investigate and got closer than any of us felt comfortable!
