Isn’t he cool?

This was captured in the last hour of Polar Bear photography we had up near Churchill Canada.

We had spotted this guy while he slumbered in a snow drift and we were lucky all the way around.

First, we were lucky he decided to stand up at all – they can happily lounge around for hours and hours. A bit like my kids in fact, but I digress…

So, not only did he stand up, but we were fortunate enough to be in the perfect position when he decided to stroll away (thanks to Ward, our Polar Rover driver).

The lucky streak wasn’t over yet though – as he moved along the wind snatched up some loose snow from the ground and tossed it his way, just as he moved into the perfect light! It was one of those rare moments when you’re snapping away in utter disbelief that you’re actually getting photos of such an amazing confluence of events.

Somedays luck is just on your side!
