Mayflies have aquatic larvae (nymphs) and that's their main life stage as adults don't live longer than a day.
This is a nymph in water visible through a polarized light microscope. Of course you can't see details of that creatures without very high magnifications.
The white dots on its legs are actually ciliates that attach to everything, especially to larger animals
