Tonight I visited a wetland area that was burned by a wildfire earlier this summer. The trees are charred and leafless, but dense thickets of colorful sunflowers stand in stark contrast to the blackened ghosts. I've tried this technique many times before and failed each time. Tonight I focused on one sunflower and, starting at 24mm, I zoomed in to about 100mm during a long exposure. The effect you see here was created entirely in-camera. I was able to better define the rays with some local contrast adjustments and global sharpening. I think this one will look fantastic printed large and on canvas.
