My wife has long wanted to see wild horses in their environment. Her recent birthday presented an opportunity to do just that. After researching where to find them, we landed in South Dakota at the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. We took a 4 hour photography tour with an experienced rancher and lover of horses around this huge reservation whose sole purpose is to make sure wild horses are well taken care of.
This shot was taken while we were all waiting for the feed truck to come along. What struck me at this moment was the stillness of their stances and how they were all looking in the same direction as if they collectively knew what was about to happen. Interacting with these beautiful and loving creatures was a highlight of this year and I will never forget it. I will post more photos of this unique experience in the future, but for now I hope you enjoy this as the beginning of the set.
