This must be the ugliest fly ever. When I first saw it, at the top of Waterton Canyon in Colorado, I thought it was a bumble bee. Upon getting home and seeing it in full detail on my computer, I realized it was some kind of fly. The first thought that came to mind, given the way it cruised from flower to flower, was "Biker Fly"...it just had that gruff, tough, mean-fly look to it. It took several days of research to identify it as a Spiny Tachina fly, or "Hedgehog Fly". Aptly named, I do believe...although "Biker Fly" would fit just as well, I thinks. ;)
