Thank you for the nod on the exposure. I have found that the meters in digital cameras often give bad results in daylight, especially shooting anywhere toward the sun: they overexpose maybe one and half to two zones, so I often get blocking in the high values, especially clouds. This was at 90 degrees to the sun, and it just barely avoided blocking in the lightest areas. This must have been the camera's auto meter. If I had used the Ansel Adams manual approach, the f stop would have been the square root of the ASA (200) -- f14, and the shutter speed the inverse of the brightness in candles per square foot. According to him, the brightness of the Sierra sky in summer is 200 candles per square foot, which would indicate 1/200th of a second -- if I wanted the sky on Zone V. That's what I had my manual setting set to. In this case the sky is closer to Zone VII, so the meter gave about the same result. I was fortunate, I think.
