The low population of school going children in Burundi can be explained by the fact that majority of the children of Burundi are either refugees struggling for survival or are juvenile delinquents undergoing physical and mental abuse. Severed from their families, these children are the most vulnerable victims of war and political clashes which have been going on for 10 years.

Relief to the children of Burundi is being provided by UNICEF to improve the condition of the children of the country. United Nations volunteers together with local associations and NGOs are working to improve the quality of health in Burundi and increase awareness on various issues related to healthcare and hygiene. The impact created by them is emphatic and a gradual transformation can be observed which promises a better future for the children.
