The bowed psaltery has a plaintive, haunting sound that lends itself to the melodic laments characteristic of the Appalachian music of a bygone era. This scene is what I imagine a composer's desk would be like as he worked to create music during the American Civil War.
I found this in a small shop that specializes in hand-crafted instruments and was immediately attracted to its workmanship and photographic possibilities
