Sunrise as witnessed from Old Mahableshwar overlooking the Krishna Valley.
Mahabaleshwar is the source of the Krishna River that flows across Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The legendary source of the river is a spout from the mouth of a statue of a cow in the ancient temple of Mahadev in Old Mahabaleshwar.
The Krishna River is one of the longest rivers in central-southern India, about 1,400 kilometres (870 mi). The Krishna River is the third longest river in India after the Ganges and the Godavari.
