Actually, he came up to us to practice some basic English. He was a bit taken back when I grabbed this shot but was cool about it. We departed with a win-win - he got a chance to ask some very simple questions in English and I got this shot. Anyway, SE Asia is a cornucopia of monk shots. There are other Asian countries with monks, but there are more monks in SE Asia and they are more approachable than other parts of Asia.
