Something I’ve noticed about photographers is that we never openly admit we love our own work – we’ll bashfully admit we’re happy with it, if pressed, but never say “I love this photo – I think it’s perfect”.

So – let me go on record and say that – I love this photo – I mean, I really love this photo.

There – done. Said.

Arghh. No – now I have to justify my audacious ways. I can’t just leave it there..

So, why do I love this photo??

To begin with – many of you who have read my image descriptions of recent will know that for a while now I’ve been looking for that quintessential Australian windmill shot, so this must be it, right? Is that why I love it? Well not really no – because personally I think my last two windmill shots are better photos.

I love this photo because, for the first time in my photographic journey, I realised a vision – exactly how I had imagined it. The first time – ever! This is a photo that had been nothing more than an imagination.

“A bare Australian windmill lit by that warm evening sun, surrounded by hard red dirt with something interesting in the background – imagine how good it’d be if it were rocks in the background, red rocks like Uluru, and a clear blue sky – just like we picture in our minds all the time in the outback”.

That was my vision, I had no idea this windmill existed – I’d never seen it before so you can only image how elated I was when this scene was presented in front of me. That is the reason why I love this photo!
