the guardian god of children,travelers and pregnant women. A stone statue of Jizo is represented as a monk with a shaved head, holding a gem stone in one hand and a staff in the other. He is erected as travelers' guardian deity on the roadside and crossroads. Jizo is also believed to rescue the spirits of children when they die.
