I thought I’ll give you all a short break from looking at Antarctic photographs and let you know about my really cool find in Tierra del Fuego while exploring the area over the last couple of days. For this part of the trip I was travelling with Glenn (www.glenndixonvisuals.com), a really good filmmaker (and photographer) from Melbourne, Australia who was part of our Antarctica group and who, like me, was looking for some cool landscapes to photograph.

Tierra del Fuego doesn’t really have many towns or villages and most of the land is taken by the Estacias (the local farms). However, one small town, about 100km away from Ushuaia is Tolhuin and by small town, I mean more like a little village. Its location though is just incredible. It lies on the shores of Lake Fagnano and since it was very central to all the places we wanted to explore, we decided to base ourselves here and started looking for a place to stay at.

We tried a couple of cabanas right on the lake, but they were a bit on the expensive side, so finally we saw a sign to Cabanas Del Fagnano. The complex is located up on a hill overlooking the lake and the owner built these wooden paths between the cabanas which make you feel almost like you’re staying among the treetops. It’s a really beautiful place and if you’re ever in the area you should spend at least a night here.

As for the actual image, if you rollover to see the original you will notice I haven’t done much to it. It was a very long exposure to begin with (8 minutes with 2 stacked ND filters) so the clouds ended up moving quite a lot, giving this serene tone to the whole photograph.
