The Love Statue was placed in JFK Plaza in 1976 for the Bicentennial. It was designed by Robert Indiana. It left in early 1978 but was missed by the people so the chairman of the Phila. Art Commission, F. Eugene Dixon Jr. bought the sculpture and placed it back in the plaza later in 1978. It became a mecca for skate boarders and was responsible for the X Games being in Phila. in 2002. The park where the statue is placed is now called Love Park and has become one of the city's identifying landmarks.
It has a beautiful view down the Ben Franklin Parkway which houses the Franklin Institue & Fels Planetarium, The Rodin Museum which has the famous statue "The Thinker" outside on the greens, The newly moved Barnes Museum and at the very end facing the Love Statue is the renowned Phila. Art Museum.
