Anybody who thinks that Mesa Arch can or should only be shot at sunrise on a clear day, needs to have their head examined.

I was in Moab for the weekend, and despite the steady drizzle and low clouds, I just had to take a few hours and head into Arches and Canyonlands. I knew much of what this awesome land has to offer would be hidden, but it was still worth getting out and breathing the fresh, crisp air.

Even with the snow on the ground, the trail to Mesa was easy, and I almost couldn't believe the sight that met me when I arrived. The clouds were rolling through the valley below, one instant hiding everything and then minutes later letting ghostly shapes appear through the fog. I was alone, and it was quiet (how rare is that at this spot?) and I had a chance to just take in this magnificent scene. It is simply awe-inspiring in its beauty, which is why so many jockey for position on brighter mornings trying to capture what they're seeing.
