This image is based on a single image processed using HDR software to produce a pair of tone-mapped versions, each using a different tone-mapping model. Hence the image(s) is(are) tone-mapped and not strictly HDR.
The original image was taken using a tripod-mounted Nikon D5000 fitted with a Nikkor 18-105mm VR lense set to 18mm, ISO200, Aperture priority mode, f/9.0, 1/8 sec with an exposure bias of EV-0.33. HDR processing was done using Luminance/Qtpfsgui to produce two different versions, one using the Mantiuk '06 model and the other Fattal. PP in GIMP: the two tone-mapped versions were loaded as layers into GIMP with the Mantiuk version occupying the top layer and the Fattal version the lower layer, they layers were blended using a 80% Mantiuk opacity and a new layer produced from the result, horizon levelled, the overall tonality was adjusted using the tone curve tool to restore the dark, brooding feel of the scene, saturation was boosted somewhat, the foam on the waves was selectively brightened to get a more 'natural' look, sharpened, add fine black and white frame, add bar and text on left, scale to 1024 for posting.
