Flying Antillean Crested Hummingbird Barbados

The Antillean Crested Hummingbird is one of 18 species of hummingbirds found in the Caribbean. At 3.5 inches long, this species is one of the smaller species that occur in the Caribbean.

Hummingbirds are one of the amazing creatures of our world. They are capable of both forward and backward flight, vertical flight and the ability to hover as long as they wish.

They provide an essential role as pollinators as they search from flower to flower for nectar. Their flight abilities, unmatched in the animal kingdom, make them wonderful subjects for studies in aerodynamics.

Their brilliant colours and iridescent hues are fascinating topics for the study of the physics of light. Many folks put out nectar feeders to attract and enjoy the beauty and wonder of these feathered jewels.
