This, the first of several somewhat similar compositions from the Mendenhall Ice Caves, does the best job of showcasing the interaction between the forms in the flowing water and those in the ceiling ice. Despite the fact that there appears to be a simple symmetry between the two shapes, closer inspection reveals that the balance is an illusion.
In the end, and not surprisingly, the photograph is all about light. The light takes three forms, and they are not in competition with each other. Rather, they are complimentary as they illuminate the beauties of the cave.
