Several places in Hokkaido hold lightups like these to celebrate the Snow Festival. Hokkaido is the northernmost part of Japan and gets a lot of snow during the winter. Celebrations like these make this cold part of Japan a nice place to visit.
Otaru is a port city, 45 minutes away by train from the Sapporo, facing the Sea of Japan. Since this faces West, I wonder how this place will look like on a clear sunset.
