Las dos necrópolis de Hierápolis (180 a C - antigua ciudad helenística y después romana), se extienden varios kilómetros hacia el norte y otros tantos hacia el sur, ambas en las afueras de la ciudad; y sus más de 1.200 sepulturas, de todas las formas y tamaños, proporcionan gran cantidad de información sobre los cultos funerarios de la era grecorromana. Los sarcófagos están tallados en mármol con numerosos relieves, y las tumbas adoptan a veces la forma de un templo en miniatura.

Aquí campan a sus anchas infinidad de lagartos de distintos tamaños; creciendo por doquier multitud de higueras y muy variadas plantas y flores silvestres. Impacta sobremanera ver tanta vida multicolor brotando entre las destartaladas tumbas milenarias.

The two necropolis of Hierapolis (180 to C - ancient Hellenistic city and later Roman), extend several kilometers to the north and south so many, both outside the walls, on the outskirts of the city, and its more than 1,200 graves, of all shapes and sizes, provide a wealth of information on funerary cults of the Greco-Roman era. The sarcophagi are carved in marble with numerous reliefs, graves and sometimes take the form of a miniature temple.

Here roam countless lizards of different sizes grow fig trees everywhere numerous and varied plants and wildflowers. Greatly impacts see such colorful life springing from the rickety ancient tombs.
